A Mumbai theatre owner lashes out at Vijay Deverakonda over his statement “dekh lenge” on the boycott trends
South superstar Vijay Deverakonda’s latest offering ‘Liger’-which created a huge buzz, has failed to impress the audience. The film which sees Vijay playing an MMA fighter with a stammering disorder is garnering negative reviews from netizens and critics alike. Deverakonda’s statement “dekh lenge” on the boycott trends has massively affected his movie, feels Manoj Desai, Executive Director of Gaiety Galaxy & Maratha Mandir Cinema. He lashed out at the actor, calling him ‘arrogant and aanaconda.’
In a video that has gone viral on social media, Manoj is seen criticizing the Arjun Reddy actor for his overconfidence and suggested he should go back to doing South films. Desai said in the video, “Why are you showing smartness by saying 'Boycott our movie'? People won't even watch on OTT. Such behaviour of yours has put us in trouble and impacting our advance bookings. Mr Vijay, you are anaconda not 'Konda Konda'. You are talking like an anaconda. 'Vinaash kaale vipareet buddhi', when the time of destruction inches closer, the mind stops working, and you are doing that. anyways, it's your wish.” ALSO READ: Liger Twitter REVIEWS: Netizens Call Vijay Deverakonda- Ananya Panday Starrer A ‘Wasted Opportunity’: ‘It’s An Unbearable Torture Film’
He added, “Mr Vijay, it seems, you have become arrogant, 'Watch the movie or if you don't wish to then don't watch', haven't you seen its impact. If the audience will not watch, see what Taapsee Pannu, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar are going through. I had high expectations from the movie, but such statements during the interview have had harsh impacts. One shouldn't do this and never pay heed to hashtags.”
Directed by Puri Jagannadh, ‘Liger’ marked the Bollywood debut of Vijay and the South debut of Ananya Panday. Reportedly, the film witnessed a good start but it slowed down due to negative reviews. Liger is said to have minted around Rs 20-25 crore on its opening day. The Hindi version of the film saw a delay in its release due to unknown reasons.
